I'm just a son, a husband, a father, a friend, and a business owner/partner. I figure if I can be the best I can be at each of those roles, life will be good.
So Apture is a little plugin we heard about from Darren Rowse, aka @problogger. I’m creating a quick post to test the functionality of the plugin. The benefit of this plugin is potentially huge for bloggers or businesses that want to guarantee more time spent on their own websites rather than linking out to other sites to find more info. I’ve also gone back and updated my recent post reviewing the bookThe Noticer, by Andy Andrews, with Apture-ifficness.
I would love for some folks to check this out and give me a little feedback. Thanks.
It is in the valley that we slog through the lush grass and rich soil, learning and becoming what enables us to summit life’s next peak. – Jones, The Noticer
The situation in which you find yourself is fraught with difficulty, yes. It is also piled high with benefits. – Jones, The Noticer
Remember, whatever you focus upon, increases. – Jones, The Noticer
What is it about me that other people would change if they could? – Jones, The Noticer
These are a few lines from the latest book by Andy Andrews titled The Noticer. And this is just in the first chapter. I knew I was in for some good stuff.
If you don’t know Andy Andrews, you should. He is quickly becoming one of America’s most influential and in-demand speakers. Speaking for four different US presidents certainly gives him credibility as someone with something important to say. Having read his previous best-seller, The Traveler’s Gift, I could appreciate his easy style and masterful storytelling. He draws you in and takes you on a journey; teaching, guiding and providing wisdom like a kind and loving father that is tough at the same time. I started reading The Noticer with the belief that this was but another great story with a great message. And it is. But it’s so much more. It’s real. This is Andy’s story. And it will blow you away.
Check it out. You can purchase it at Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover to the left. you can also purchase The Traveler’s Gift by clicking on it in the Amazon Books ad in the sidebar on the right.
My wife, wonderful woman that she is, often times is asked, “What does your husband do?” She sometimes likes to play it off like she doesn’t really know or can’t really explain it, but she has a pretty good idea. I play on the internet, trying out new services and technologies, and talk to people about why some of these new services and technologies matter, or should matter, to them as individuals and also to their businesses. If they get it, I then consult with them on developing and implementing a strategy, leveraging the internet and the web, to grow their influence and reach more people with their message. Whatever that message might be. Whether it’s a small business selling a product or a service, or a church sharing the good news, or a non-profit trying to connect with donors or supporters everyone needs a strategy that helps them maximize the impact of their message with as many people as they can reach. That’s pretty much it. However, through the medium of the internet and the world wide web, it is possible to connect with anyone, anywhere in the world, anytime. The “interwebs” are also providing an unprecedented opportunity for democracy to evolve and flourish in parts of the world once thought impossible. We truly are living in exciting times.
If you aren’t familiar with TED, let me encourage you to get on iTunes and subscribe to the podcast. Lot’s of great thinkers sharing lots of great ideas. I recently watched this talk given by Clay Shirkey titled How Social Media Can Make History and thought, T”this guy gets it and lays it out in such a way that helps others understand it.” Take a few minutes, if you can, and watch this.

Testing the capabilities and functionality of the Twitter Tools Plugin for WordPress. Once I post this message, the plugin will automatically fire off a Tweet with my Twitter account. Using a second plugin, called Twitter Tools: bit.ly links that uses the API associated with my bit.ly (URL shortening) account. So, in theory (and being put to the test with this post), any and all future blog posts will automagically be sent as a shortened link to the Twitterverse. Here goes nothing.
