I ain’t sayin‘, I’m just sayin‘.

I appreciate his take and agree with Justin on this. I’m not saying it means anything, but I also can’t dismiss it as pure coincidence. Was God trying to get our attention? If so, what was he trying to say? What should we be hearing? Take a look at this story, it’s only a few short paragraphs, and comment on the discussion going on at Justin’s site, or comment here. Either way, join in the discussion and share your thoughts. And above all, seek God and His Truth in all things.

At approximately 2 pm yesterday, a tornado touched down in downtown Minneapolis. It was the first tornado to hit this area in nearly 90 years. Even more profound is that the agenda for the churchwide assembly stated that discussion surrounding the proposed human sexuality statement would begin at, you guessed it, 2 pm.

And this is just in the first chapter. I knew I was in for some good stuff.

If you don’t know Andy Andrews, you should. He is quickly becoming one of America’s most influential and in-demand speakers. Speaking for four different US presidents certainly gives him credibility as someone with something important to say. Having read his previous best-seller, The Traveler’s Gift, I could appreciate his easy style and masterful storytelling. He draws you in and takes you on a journey; teaching, guiding and providing wisdom like a kind and loving father that is tough at the same time. I started reading The Noticer with the belief that this was but another great story with a great message. And it is. But it’s so much more. It’s real. This is Andy’s story. And it will blow you away.

Check it out. You can purchase it at Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover to the left. you can also purchase The Traveler’s Gift by clicking on it in the Amazon Books ad in the sidebar on the right.

My wife, wonderful woman that she is, often times is asked, “What does your husband do?” She sometimes likes to play it off like she doesn’t really know or can’t really explain it, but she has a pretty good idea. I play on the internet, trying out new services and technologies, and talk to people about why some of these new services and technologies matter, or should matter, to them as individuals and also to their businesses. If they get it, I then consult with them on developing and implementing a strategy, leveraging the internet and the web, to grow their influence and reach more people with their message. Whatever that message might be. Whether it’s a small business selling a product or a service, or a church sharing the good news, or a non-profit trying to connect with donors or supporters everyone needs a strategy that helps them maximize the impact of their message with as many people as they can reach. That’s pretty much it. However, through the medium of the internet and the world wide web, it is possible to connect with anyone, anywhere in the world, anytime. The “interwebs” are also providing an unprecedented opportunity for democracy to evolve and flourish in parts of the world once thought impossible. We truly are living in exciting times.

If you aren’t familiar with TED, let me encourage you to get on iTunes and subscribe to the podcast. Lot’s of great thinkers sharing lots of great ideas. I recently watched this talk given by Clay Shirkey titled How Social Media Can Make History and thought, T”this guy gets it and lays it out in such a way that helps others understand it.” Take a few minutes, if you can, and watch this.

Daniel’s court-appointed attorney, Philip Elbert, called the decision unfotunate.

“I feel it’s a blow to families,” he said. “It marginalizes the decisions that parents face every day in regard to their children’s medical care. It really affirms the role that big government is better at making our decisions for us.”

via Judge Rules Family Can’t Refuse Chemo for Boy – ABC News.

If you haven’t heard about this case, you need to sit up and take notice. If it doesn’t concern you, you need to wake up. If this case stands it will set precedent that can and will most likely lead to more and more intrusion of the government into our lives. A government that thinks it knows what’s best for us. A government that isn’t interested in what’s best for you as an individual or you as a family. A government that thinks they should order you as a family to accept medical treatment that may not be best for you.

If you aren’t familiar with the story, follow the link above to read it. If you are, please engage in the conversation. If you are not familiar with what chemotherapy is and does to the body. Do some research. It kills good cells along with the bad. There are plenty of reports and studies that show different people respond differently to different types of chemotherapy. It doesn’t work for everyone and it doesn’t work the same in everyone.

The fact that several other young men, who went through similar situations as Daniel Hauser, took herbal and natural supplements and treatments instead of chemotherapy and are both, today, cancer-free encouraged and inspired the Hauser family to pursue alternative forms of treatment for their son. What right does the court have ruling that the family is being “medically negligent” and ordering them to take their son and allow him to receive the chemotherapy. Isn’t this a case in which the court is drastically over-stepping its bounds, or am I crazy?

Excellent questions by Tony Morgan over at his blog. Questions that hopefully get folks thinking about church and how we do it. And hopefully thinking about how we can do it better.

I like the direction he’s headed with these questions and I like challenging the status quo. I think there are quite a few churches that are leading the way in this regard, but I truly believe we are just scratching the surface of a radical change that is taking place in how church and organized religion is practice in this country. What do you think?

So I’m sure most husbands have had the awkward task of going into the store to retrieve feminine hygiene products for their wife at some point in the relationship. And I’m sure, like me, at some point they’ve all felt that feeling of embarrassment and uncertainty while standing in the aisle, trying to make sure the right product is purchased. Large? Small? Wings? No wings? Thin? Wide? Extra absorbent? Way too many options.

Of course, there’s always a positive in everything. With years of experience now under my belt, I am pretty confident, even nonchalant when asked to venture down that aisle. So, apparently the last time my wife picked up feminine products for herself, she got the wrong kind. After relating this tidbit of info to me, I told her that’s what she gets for doing a husband’s job. I asked her if she needed me to take care of it for her. She smiled and said, “Sure!”

While performing my husbandly duty this evening, I flashed back to some of those early moments of embarrassment and uncertainty. As I did, though, I genuinely felt warmth and love for my wife. I would do anything for her. She is my life, my breath, my everything. I love having her in my life and I love her more than words can say. I’m glad I have the privilege and honor to be her husband and get her pads. Ultra-thin. Wings. Love you, Sweetie!!

So tonight, after a long week with many challenges, some still unmet, Steph and I decided that neither of us wanted to cook. Eli went to his Mimi’s house and that left the three of us. The weather forced the cancellation of Neal’s t-ball practice so we decided to take him and go out to dinner.

He and I had recently made a trip to the new Kyoto Japanese restaurant in the “new” Kroger shopping center to get Mommy some take out one night. Neal watched, from afar, in wide-eyed wonder at the hibachi masters as they worked magic with spatulas, eggs and fire. I asked him if he wanted to get closer so he could see better, but he was content to observe from a distance. I then asked him if he would want to come back some time so we could sit at the table and watch them better. He silently nodded, still staring at the flames shooting out of the onion volcano. So tonight was the night.

I’ve never been so proud of my boy as I was tonight. I watched him eat, using chopsticks no less, some of everything put on his plate. He turned his soup bowl up and drank it down like nobody’s business. He ate mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, rice, more rice and shrimp. He clapped at the onion volcano and said thank you when his food was placed on his plate. He said thanks and bye to the lady who collected our money and the nice Mr. Ben, whom he remembered from the last time we were there.

We walked out to the car and got in and we both told him how proud we were that he was our son. I asked him if he liked the Japanese. He nodded that slow and steady nod that was purposeful, yet sleepy. We pulled out of the parking lot and within three minutes he was zonked.

That’s my boy.

Ever have one of those days? Ever have one of those weeks? How about this: ever have one of those years? You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind where not one big thing goes wrong, but lots and lots and lots of little things don’t go quite right. I feel like I’m having one of those years this week. Yes, I did say one of those years. This week. Nothing huge has gone wrong, nothing major has happened. But a lot of little things haven’t gone quite right and it’s beginning to feel like something big. Something really big. You ever feel that weight pressing down on you. You know, the weight you feel when you’re trying to make sense out of a lot of little “not quite rights”. The weight you feel when you’re trying to figure out how to find time to fix it all. The weight felt when realizing that no matter how hard you try, and no matter how hard you pray, you’re not going to find and God’s not going to provide that ever-elusive 25th hour in the day. Of course the real weight is felt once the realization hits that even if that hour were found, you wouldn’t know what to do with it. That’s about where I am. This week has left me feeling like a possum in broad daylight trying to cross I-285, only to realize, that if by some miracle I make it, I still have to get across the median and the other six lanes as well. Prayers for wisdom, focus, patience and peace would be greatly appreciated.

This year is the 70th anniversary of the opening of the film and to commemorate, the fabulous Fox Theater here in Atlanta is having a special showing of the film. I haven’t told Steph about it yet, but I’ve gotten tickets and am going to surprise her with a romantic gesture. I know. Some of you are wondering how she’ll be surprised if I’m posting it here, but I’m having a little fun as she very rarely reads the ole blog here. She pretty much sticks to Facebook and all the updates she can get there. And if she does surprise me and read it here, then “Surprise, honey!!” I look forward to a fun time with you watching your favorite movie.

So I’m testing WordPress posting from a program called Dial2do. This is where I use my phone to call a phone number and then I speak my blog entry and then it uploads and posts automatically to WordPress. So I’m going to test this and see how it works.

Powered by . Mp3

So, everything above here is the post as it came from Dial2Do. I edited the word “WordPress” in both spots as well as added an “s” to the word “post” in the next to last sentence. Potentially very cool, since this also adds a link back to the actual recording of me speaking my entry.
